Posio High School
Overview
We have been educating international students since 2019 and the graduated have continued their studies in Finnish universities.
We have in-depth ceramics studies and excellent sports facilities. Our graduates' possibilities to get into further studies are great.
In Posio we have four beautiful seasons. In the winter we usually have plenty of snow and the temperature is -5 - -20 C. The winters are extremely dark with a chance of seeing Northern lights. In the summer we have a nightless night and the temperature is +5 - +20 C.
Distances: 135 km to Rovaniemi, 60 km to Kuusamo, 225 km to Oulu
Our school center is located within walking distance of grocery shops, the health care center, the bus station, and the library. Our sports campus (gym, athletic field, indoor ice rink, fitness stairs, running and skiing tracks, and frisbee golf course), is next to the school center. We also have a downhill ski center 6 km from the school, with free passes for our students.
The municipality of Posio is a rural, cozy community with 3000 inhabitants and beautiful, ubiquitous nature.

Study line: General study line, Ceramics, and Sports
Our general education consists e g of Finnish and literature, languages (English, Swedish, German), History, Natural Sciences, Social Sciences, Mathematics (especially advanced mathematics), Art and PE.
The school has two main specialization areas: ceramics and sports.

Student housing is free of charge for all students.

Accommodation
The dormitory is located next to the school, there are 27 one-bedroom rooms. The dormitory manager is available during the evenings. The kitchen and bathrooms are shared on each floor of the dormitory, and there is a possibility to use the sauna.
Other
The school currently has 18 international students.
We are starting an Erasmus+ KA2 project with a Romanian and Turkish school in May.
The students in our school are most likely to apply to Oulu university; we have cooperated with Oulu university of applied sciences.
We have a special education teacher and a school social worker, a psychologist. We also offer remedial teaching when needed.
We have an active student board that organizes international events. We have a tradition of making a whole school trip to local natural sights on the first school day.
